Welcome a new era of safety, with fire detection systems that are designed for the mining industry.
In the mining sector, where early fire detection is not just a nice to have, but a necessity, fibre optic technology enables the precise identification of the location of fires, at its earliest stages.
Let us assist you in implementing advanced fibre optic technology that seamlessly aligns with your needs, making safety a practical and precise science in your mine.
According to an estimate by Engineer Live, in the last decade, mining fires have caused damage ranging from a few million dollars to upwards of $125 million. This highlights the benefits of investing in technology that can detect and identify hotspot locations early before they turn into a fire.
Our DTS system still operates in the event of a fire (for 2 hours at 750°C), to help you manage the fire event. For example how do you manage evacuations, shutdown operations, turn off ventilation, or set off fire suppression systems.
Our Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS) fibre optic system goes a step further than detection. It also provides peace of mind, with continuous and extensive monitoring in the event of a fire. This ensures accurate data is always recorded for regulatory compliance and incident reporting purposes.
Our tailored systems are designed to detect and prevent fires efficiently, reduce long-term costs and ensure the wellbeing of your team and safeguarding your valuable assets.
As leaders in mining operations, we understand the critical role safety plays in your operation. Our mining fire detection systems empower you with proactive defence capabilities, allowing you to stay one step ahead of potential fire hazards.
The fibre optic mining fire detection system allows for temperature monitoring, alarm setting and historical trends to be integrated into your existing real-time plant operations e.g., SCADA systems.
Our fibre optic cable is both fire resistant and fire-retardant and non-corrosive (FRNC), ensuring uninterrupted operation in harsh environments. The stainless-steel sheathed cable is both ruggedised and flexible for handling purposes due to its small diameter (4mm) and light weight (29g/m).
This sensor cable is maintenance-free, with a design life of 40 years. The DTS detector uses low laser light power to allow for installation in explosive atmospheres.
We understand that every mining application comes with its unique challenges.
Our fibre optic system has successfully been installed in critical mining environments where conventional fire detection systems may not cope the harsh environment, setoff spurious alarms, and/or require regular cleaning/maintenance. This includes coal stockpiles, mining conveyors, reclaim tunnel coal valves, equipment bearings, and more.
Our fire detection solutions are precisely engineered to adapt seamlessly to your specific needs.
“The DTS collects real-time temperature data every metre along its length, it then reports this temperature to the CHPP Citect control system. Any measured temperatures exceeding the alarm setting triggers a Citect warning alarm for immediate response to the exact hot spot location. The system provides a faster response time to any potential fire risk. It is performing well to expectation.”

Whether it’s an open pit mine, underground excavation, or processing plant, our mining fire detection solutions align with the intricacies of your expertise.
Compared to conventional fire detection, fibre optics is proven to be 34% cheaper across whole lifecycle
There has been a 13% increase in incidents causes by fire and explosions in mining environments
71% of mines need to make an adjustment related to fire and explosion risks*

By detecting abnormal heat build-up at the development phase, hazards are identified significantly earlier with our mining fire detection systems.
Early intervention and identification of potential hazards on-site can occur before any fire arises. The accuracy gets as close to 0.5 metres, allowing you to identify and remove potential hazards specifically and effectively.
Temperature readings with precise locations are transmitted to the site’s operation and control system. These readings provide a full temperature profile along the entire length of the fibre cable. In comparison to DTS technology, experimental results from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) indicates that more traditional fire detection methods for carbon monoxide and smoke pose a higher risk factor.
Conventional fire detection methods are often unable to cover large industrial areas and provide real-time monitoring to prevent a fire.
It can take coal on average 16-24 minutes to erupt into flame. This can result in a material fire or an explosion. Our fibre optic solution will detect smouldering coal ahead of conventional gas and infrared detectors. In summary, our system allows the underground mine to:
